Facebook Is Offering A Way For Creators To Bypass Apple’s Fees
I of the issues that developers and creators take with Apple's storefront is that they have to pay the company a 15-30% cut from app purchases, subscriptions, likewise equally microtransactions. This is something that some companies like Ballsy have taken such great issue with that they even tried to sue Apple over it.
Now it looks like Facebook is trying to find a way around paying Apple their cut. In a post on Facebook, Meta's CEO Marker Zuckerberg revealed that they take come with a way to bypass Apple'due south fees. This volition come up in the class of a custom link that developers and creators can use to help them go around paying Apple a fifteen-30% cut.
According to Zuckerberg, "We're launching a promotional link for creators for their Subscriptions offer. When people subscribe using this link, creators will keep all the money they earn (minus taxes)." Information technology is unclear if this will meet issues with Apple'south terms and conditions, just presumably that is something Facebook is willing to take chances on.
In a way information technology shouldn't exist too surprising that Facebook is attempting to exercise this. A recent report has suggested that Facebook and other social media platforms have lost about $10 billion in advertizing revenue due to Apple's App Tracking Transparency characteristic, so this could exist Facebook'south manner of trying to make back some of that money by not having to requite Apple a cutting of subscription fees.
